Grace Burnworth, who graduated from Vanderbilt in May, loved the overlap of art history and studio art as a double major. Now at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, she is pursuing a master’s degree in art education.
“Because of the education in art that I received at Vanderbilt, I want to educate others in a similar way,” Burnworth said. “I want my students to experience art as I do—to see and use the material in front of them as a gateway, a springboard to endless self-exploration and creativity.”
Drawn to the tactility of clay, Burnworth fashioned a ceramic installation for her senior show. “My sculptural vessels tower triumphantly over the gallery viewer, creating a shared space in which the viewer and the art must respect the presence of the other,” she said. ~Fay
